Damien Cooper from the BANK OF MELBOURNE explaining the JOHN GREGSON TROPHY
at the Club Presenttion Day on 1st December, 2013
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE JOHN GREGSON TROPHY
On Friday the 16th November Damien Cooper from the BANK OF MELBOURNE announced a new
competition to be named the JOHN GREGSON TROPHY. The announcement was very warmly accepted by members who were present at the announcement.
The new competition is generously sponsored by the Bank of Melbourne.
This will be a competition for men with the winner being the player with the lowest scoring
average over his best 20 rounds. These rounds are to be played over a 12 month period commencing with the monthly medal in December and concluding with the final round of the Club Championships
in November the following year. Obviously many will play more than 20 rounds with only their best 20 counting in the scoring average.
It will be based on Saturday scores only (with the only exception being the 2nd round
of the Club Championships which are always played on a Sunday). All rounds will be converted to stroke equivalent scores.
There will be no additional cost to enter. Just playing on Saturday automatically enters you in
the competition.
First prize is to be $1000.

DETAILS
JOHN GREGSON TROPHY (Trial for
2013) SPONSORED BY THE BANK OF MELBOURNE
Reminder: The John Gregson Trophy will be decided using the nett scoring average for the best 20
scores on a Saturday, over a 12 month period. All nett scores being converted to stroke equivalent.
During the 2013 golf year, Damien Cooper has maintained the scoring average for the John Gregson
Trophy as a trial to see how it would work and to determine how close it might be.
The scoring system worked really well and was even closer that we had expected.
Over the year more than 100 players played in 20 rounds or more in order to qualify for the
event.
The winner and runner up were actually separated by one stroke:
· Winning
score: 1412 strokes for best 20
rounds. Average 70.60
· Runner Up score: 1413
strokes for best 20 rounds. Average 70.65
The score difference between first place and those in 10th place is only 28 strokes
over 20 rounds. Everyone really does have a competitive chance in this event.
